  • The Spares

The Spares make twangy, bluesy, roots music-call it alt-country or Americana. The Chicago duo writes and sings about faith and life and characters in hard places, like a nine-to-five company man who quits his job in search of meaning ("Mexico") or a marriage in peril ("Waiting for the Smoke to Clear"), whose stories hint at love and truth in ways that the characters themselves don't always recognize. Their lyrics are thoughtful and honest, just as their acoustic music is raw, beautiful, and compelling. Check them out here:

Psalters is a nomadic community of musicians, who tour the country in an amazing black school bus, dedicated to creating what they call "grimy silk road psalms of the underground." This eclectic group writes counter-cultural modern psalms and sets them to a fusion of mid-eastern and Indian music, along with strong tribal percussions and indie rock sensibility.
